Daily Skin Care Made Easy: Six Simple Steps to Healthier Skin

Daily Skin Care is Easy to Achieve –

Your skin is your largest bodily organ and it demands proper daily skin care. If it’s going to be healthy.  Developing a daily skin care routine is essential.  It’s also easier to complete than you might think.  And, it doesn’t have to take hours out of your day, and it doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg when it comes to purchasing skin care products.  Listed below are six skincare tips to get you started on a path to healthier skin from head-to-toe.

Cleanse Your Skin Daily:

Skin care should be a priority in your everyday body care routine.  Be sure to use a cleanser matched to your particular skin type (dry, normal, oily, combination or sensitive) by using your brand of choice.  Use tepid or cool water.  Remember, hot water can irritate and dehydrate your skin.  Also, intense scrubbing is likely to result in skin irritation and should be avoided. Many women treat their skin harshly, especially around the eyes when applying and removing eye makeup.  Train yourself to treat your skin gently, it will love you for it.

Keep Your Skin Well Hydrated to Make Sure it Stays Healthy:

Be sure to drink plenty of water (9 to 12 cups per day is recommended) and remember to moisturize your skin, from head-to-toe.  You want to avid dry skin conditions that cause irritation which causes your skin to become red, flaky and itchy.  Many moisturizers available today are fortified to fight the effect of free radicals, which are known to negatively impact your skin.  Some moisturizers also contain SPF ingredients to help protect your from the damaging rays of the sun and eliminate the need for a second SPF product application so be sure to check the label on your moisturizer.

Remember to Wear Sunscreen:

Wearing sunscreen whenever you go outside will help you minimize the risk of developing skin cancer and is essential for daily skin care.  For everyday exposure to the sun, as you go about your daily activities, using a sunscreen with a 15 SPF (Sun Protection Factor)  should be sufficient for most people.  It’s also advisable to use a lip balm that contains sun protection as a means of protecting your lips from over-exposure to the sun.  Always remember that consistent use of sunscreen products coupled with limiting your length of exposure to sunlight (especially from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) are your first lines of defense against skin cancer.  During summer activities that prolong your exposure to direct sunlight, higher SPF factors are recommended.  Check with your physician or esthetician for SPF recommendations for your skin type and sensitivities.  Remember to apply sunscreen a good 30 minutes before being in direct sunlight.

Smoking Causes Wrinkles and Intensifies the Aging Process:

One of the best things you can do to slow-down your skin’s aging process, if you’re a smoker, is to quit smoking.  Smoking decreases the amount of oxygen that your skin cells can absorb.  It also increases the production of free radicals, which will damage the collagen in your skin.  Maintaining healthy collagen levels keeps your skin looking younger.  Smoking is detrimental to your skin because it hinders collagen production which causes more and deeper wrinkles to appear on your skin.

Age Spots and Wrinkles, Oh My!

As we age, wrinkles and age spots become a concern for many people, especially women.  One way to combat this process is to use skin care products known to contain the beneficial aspects of retinoids that are found in vitamin A.  The beauty of retinoids is they are instrumental in causing the surface skin cells to slough-off rapidly.  When this occurs, your body will automatically replace those discarded dead skin cells with new, vibrant, healthy one.  This daily skin care process that your body does automatically results in a younger, fresher appearance to your skin.

Your Feet Require Daily Skin Care, Too:

One area of needed daily skin care that is often neglected is our feet.  How often do you think of your feet when you think about ‘skincare?’ For most people their answer is likely to be, “Almost never!”  When summer arrives you’re going to want to be sure your feet are ready for the sandal and barefoot season.  The best way to make sure your feet are ready for warmer weather is to be mindful of maintaining a foot-care routine all-year-long.  When you remember to include foot care in your daily routine, by consistently moisturizing, protecting and treating your feet in the winter months, your feet will already be ‘beach-ready’ come summer.
